Description
In this course I created four LEPs with the literacy strategies, similarities and differences, summarizing, cues and questions, and nonlinguistic representation. These are four high yield strategies. If students are able to do these, there is a high average percentile rank gain on student achievement tests. However, a lot of students have trouble with these four strategies and I created these LEPs to teach students how to use these literacy strategies in math to help their success. Learning the skills in these lessons will help students be able to improve in mathematics and as a future mathematics educator, I plan on teaching my students how to use these strategies.

Skills Gained
I created a lesson plan using the strategy similarities and differences while learning about and comparing box plots. The students are learning to read information from box plots and in this lesson they compare two box plots by looking at their similarities and differences and putting them in a Venn-diagram. The LEP I created that used nonlinguistic representation, was about triangles and their characteristics. In this lesson the students created models of different types of triangles while let them create an example of the characteristics to understand and remember them. The LEP I created that included Cues and questions had to do with word problems. In this lesson students solved word problems by using a Cue “CUB-DEAR”. With this cue, each letter reminds the students of different step they should take while solving word problems and teaches the students how to complete each step. The LEP I created that used summarizing also would go along with the topic of word problems. In this lesson students learned how to use a graphic organizer while solving word problems. This graphic organizer also taught them how to summarize and explain how they solve problems which is important for them to do. I taught this lesson to my EDUC 360 class. When I taught this lesson, the students were able to summarize their work using the graphic organizer. I know this because I looked at their graphic organizers and two out of six students that were asked explained their summary verbally, which is done by reading the summary on the graphic organizer.

Lessons Learned
This has given me practice infusing literacy into lessons plans for math. I have learned how beneficial these literacy strategies can be and the lessons I created are good lessons to help students learn to use these strategies. I now understand how to include literacy strategies in a math classroom while teaching a math lesson. For now on, when I am creating a lesson plan, I will think about how I can infuse literacy in that lesson and teach the literacy to the students.

Impact/Importance
When thinking about mathematics and how to teach It, I normally would not have thought about language before this course. While in this course we learned about the importance of language in our lessons and how we need to teach students this language so that they can succeed. By creating these lessons, I received good practice about how to infuse literacy in my math lessons. I am going to be a math teacher and I can use these lessons in the future. More specifically, I could use the Cue I created or the graphic organizer I created. Now when I create other lessons plans I will have had practice using literacy strategies in my lessons.
